Q. Who was BATE?
A. Bate, Philip Argall Turner (1909–1999), now best known as the founder of the Bate Collection was by profession a radio and TV producer, geologist, paleaontologist, scholar, an amateur actor and clarinettist. He was also a founding member of The Galpin Society.
